High island size compared to other expansions

High Isle may look small on the world map of Tamriel, but its size is deceiving compared to other chapters in The Elder Scrolls Online.

Although it fell short of expectations at launch, The Elder Scrolls Online has forged – and over the years and through several expansions – has forged a respectable identity as old scrolls title and online experience. The first chapter reintroduced the island of Vvardenfell to players, and since then the game has been used as the perfect vehicle by the developers to flesh out corners of Tamriel that the mainline games had yet to touch.

From the murky expanses of Black Marsh to the barren canyons of Elsweyr, variety has never been a problem for The Elder Scrolls Onlineand the next location that Zenimax Online Studios has prepared for its players is the Systres Archipelago for the Chapter of high island. In terms of size, it seems to be at the larger end of the areas introduced via chapters and DLCs.

A Reddit user named Vivec_lore made a comparison image of the actual size of High Isle compared to its neighboring areas in the game world, stating that the size of the world map was very misleading. In reality, and in a gameplay sense, High Isle seems much closer to Summerset or Blackwood in terms of playable space than Western Skyrim.

On the world map and in lore, the entire Systres Archipelago is roughly the size of Hew’s Bane, the area featured in the Thieves Guild DLC. Although appreciated by players for adding an important aspect to each old scrolls game, the size of Hew’s Bane would barely be able to support a full-scale chapter. Bending High Isle’s proportions allows developers to tell the story they want to tell without having to worry about how it compares to the rest of the world.

The main city for high island will be the port of Gonfalon Bay and will feature fifteen shrines to help players traverse the land which will also include Amenos, the second largest island in the Systres Archipelago. Players will also be able to buy and own two new houses in The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle – Old anchor berth and Highhallow slipway.

The greatest attraction of high island is in the fact that it represents not only a piece of Tamriel previously unexplored in the mainline games, but also a piece that has barely been explored through the game’s lore. Players will be able to set foot and see for themselves -even the wonders of the Systres archipelago in just over a month.

The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle will be released on June 6 on PC, Mac and Stadia, and on June 21 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
